Spermicidal lubricant used in condoms

There is evidence to suggest that the use of spermicidal lubricant in condoms is inappropriate for the following reasons:

  1. 1 Spermicides can cause irritation of mucous membranes, which may reduce acceptability and increase the risk of HIV infection
  2. 2 Most spermicidal lubricants will dry up when exposed to air. Therefore, they are exceptionally dependent on package integrity.
  3. 3 Shelf-life of condoms with spermicidal lubricant is limited by the shelf-life of the spermicide. such as condom is 5 years, but spermicidal lube is only 2 years.
  4. 4 Evidence suggests that surfactant spermicides weaken package seals.

Spermicidal lubricant condoms provide extra protection against pregnancy by adding a sperm-killing agent, usually nonoxynol-9 or we also called it N9 to the condom’s surface. This doubles safety by combining a physical barrier with chemical prevention. They’re ideal for users seeking added contraceptive confidence, though not recommended for frequent use due to possible irritation.

Spermicidal lubricant condoms may cause vaginal or penile irritation, dryness, or burning sensations, especially with frequent use. The active ingredient nonoxynol-9 can disrupt natural flora and increase the risk of infections or HIV transmission if the skin becomes irritated. Sensitive users should choose non-spermicidal condoms instead.

So as a professional condom plant, we don’t recommend our clients choose spermicidal condom, it’s not safe not healthy to use. Such as the benzocaine condom also belong to the chemial condoms, we also don’t recommend our clients choose it.
